This 80-page booklet lists the cities and many of the gem and mineral mines located within its borders. Vol. 1 covers from Augusta to the New Hampshire border. This booklet is probably the most important booklet ever written on Maine gem mine localities.
Many of the directions to the mines can be found by using old maps. There are 19 pages of maps.

First printed in 1959. This is a companion book to the Western Maine version and covers from Augusta to the coast of Maine. About 1880 a mining craze struck Maine. Hundreds of small openings were made and financed to the sum of $400,000 to $500,000 each. Some of these have been backfilled and covered over and the exact location may never know. Many mines produces gold, silver and precious gems. You too could find your own treasure. 80 pages
